Place! 2016

PLACE! 2016 will be focused on up-to-date topics in placemaking and urban development led by cultural and creative endeavour. The City of Košice has recently gone through the process of real cultural led regeneration seeing real change due to its successful year of being the European Capital of Culture in 2013. Its peripheral strategic geographical position in Slovakia gives Košice a great advantage in cross-border, cross-Schengen Central/Eastern Europe versus rest of Europe and world relationships.2016 PLACE! Conference will be particularly focused on the Slovak – Ukrainian cross-regional potential for collaboration and mutual learning.

Culture, creativity and their potential for urban, economic and social development are topics often discussed on a global level. We would like to explore there real potential from different perspectives; there contribution to the reputation of the cities and places, there business potential and how design and creativity can help to grow business as well as how business can help to grow cities and regions. And, how big artistic and cultural events can help to create an image for places or how hubs and culture centres can influence entrepreneurship, business or even decision-making in cities. We will also challenge the international collaboration and importance of networks as well as the different kinds of borders creativity and culture are able to cross.
