Universidade Católica Portuguesa (better known in Portugal as UCP or just “Católica”) was founded in 1967 and gained official recognition in 1971. It was the first modern Portuguese university not to be founded by the State. UCP consists of 15 faculties, schools and institutes, which are the basic education and research units. They are located in 4 main centres: Viseu, Braga, Lisbon (headquarters) and Porto. The UCP in Porto began its activities in 1978 and comprises, at present, 13 degree programs. In 1996, School of Arts was created, in Porto. It offers undergraduation and graduate studies, master and phd programs, in two fields: sound and image (3D animation, audiovisual and cinema, management for the creative industry, new media, sound design) and heritage conservation
