Impact of Covid-19 in the cultural sector of the Basque Country

Republished by ECBN from: The Basque Cultural Observatory

The Basque Cultural Observatory presents the first results of the Crisis Observatory, the monitoring and analysis device for the impact of Covid-19 in cultural sectors and areas. The survey has been designed with the aim of having basic information common to all areas, which has been contrasted with the different sectoral associations. The strategy followed responds to the urgency of the moment and the need for shared and global data. The results refer to the first wave of data collection, opened between April 9 and 26, 2020, and which has counted with the participation of 234 agents.

The report includes the following structure. First, the context of culture prior to Covid-19 is portrayed. For this purpose, the report presents both cultural and economic indicators that offer a global and synthetic image of the situation prior to the emergence of Covid-19. Likewise, before moving on to the presentation of results, a second look is given at the different initiatives with which the sector and its agents have reacted. Secondly, a sector analysis is presented, and lastly, a synthesis of the support measures for the sector is offered, with a chronological and typological analytical vision”.
