Bernd Fesel, Chair European Creative Business Network is wondering: Are there enough cultural innovations to live up to Agenda 2020?
2014 marks the start of the Innovation Union of the European Commission. Expectations are high. Whether unemployment, migration or climate change, ’innovation’ is expected to generate solutions in almost all sectors. The phrase ’Innovation for Growth’ will drive the new policy of the European Union until 2020. Here in July 2014, innovation is already the new buzzword – initiatives are popping up in great variety, from London’s NESTA, to New York’s Bloomberg Philanthrophy, from Google’s Innovation Labs to Europe’s Innovation Award for Culture. Surely it is time for a critical review of innovation – and evaluate the very starting point of the Innovation Union?
